The aim of the Teacher Training Course is to give the participants a thorough understanding of the Satyananda Yoga System not just in theory but also in a practical way, which is one of the strengths of the Satyananda System. You will learn from the traditional way, adhering to tried and trusted methods, but also with a modern approach that is required nowadays.

The teacher training courses are residential and are held in Tober Na Bhfinn, Athenry. It is a 2 year course   that leads to an international recognition and is certified by Satyananda Yoga Worldwide, the British Wheel of Yoga and the Yoga Federation of Ireland.

The course requirements are 4 years previous yoga practice and an interview with the course directors to ascertain suitability.

During the 2 years you will have to attend 20 weekends (i.e. 10 per year) and two 2 week summer courses, all residential (More than 500 hours). The course also requires home study and practice on a daily basis. All the courses are fully residential to enable the participants to embody and experience the power of yoga at a deep level. This is to ensure that they not only become very competent yoga teachers, but through firsthand experience of the different techniques, also become experienced yogis.

The subjects covered are:

The practical techniques of yoga:

  • Asanas, Pranayama, Bandha, Mudra, Shat Karma's, Yoga Nidra, Selected Meditation Techniques.

  • Theoretical studies: Yogic Texts. Chakras & Nadis. Anatomy & Physiology.

Upon completion of the teacher training, participants are required by the British Wheel of Yoga, Irish Yoga Federation and Satyananda Yoga Ireland to participate in continuous professional development of 15 hours per year to keep their insurance up to date.
